The TAO Of Architectural Photoshoots

Here’s a list of things realtors can do to help dress a property for photoshoot Nirvana. The more that can be done before your photographer arrives, the quicker and smoother the shoot will be.

Anyone who books a real-estate/architectural photographer should study this list prior to any shoot appointments, and also have in mind any special requests they may have for particular shots. Lensology always looks forward to delivering great images to all it’s clients in as calm an environment as the circumstances will allow…

  • De-clutter the property. Put cleaning supplies, magazines, children’s toys, etc. out of sight.
  • All interior lights should be on. (Replace non-working bulbs).
  • Remove small rugs that detract from the floors.
  • Lower blinds and keep them slightly open in an upwards position.
  • Close translucent curtains and/or open opaque curtains.
  • Windows and mirrors should be squeaky clean.
  • A bowl of fruit or flowers on the kitchen table adds life.
  • Remove fridge magnets from refrigerator.
  • Vacuum carpets and clean tile/wood floors.
  • Turn off TV’s and ceiling fans.
  • Make sure beds are made and are clean.
  • Ignite the fireplace if possible.
  • Close toilet lids and fold towels in the bathrooms.
  • Clean counter tops in bathrooms and kitchen.
  • Garage all cars and close doors or park them away from the property.
  • Move trash cans, lawn and garden tools, etc. out of sight.
  • Clean driveways, sidewalks and patios.
  • Mow lawns and remove lawn debris.
  • Trim bushes, trees and plants to allow a clear view of the property.
  • Enhance curb appeal with landscaping and/or flowers.
  • Close all windows and lower blinds to the same heights.
  • Patio umbrellas should be open and BBQ grill covers removed.
  • Clean swimming pool and put away cleaning equipment.

And remember, us photographers need to be able to concentrate, so please let’s keep the shoot a ‘WORLD EXCLUSIVE’. That means no appraisers, contractors or even the pool guy calling by during the shoot. And we know we don’t need to say this, but the shoot day is definitely not a good day to hold your Open House. Let’s shoot!!
